Sidney Hills / Chicago Heights, IL / Meritorious Service
In 1971, Sidney became the first Afro-American to hold a position on the LCBA board and became president in 1980. Sid managed the LCBA County Singles Tournament for many years and was a secretary on many leagues. In his spare time, he spent many years helping to support the junior bowlers of the county.
Alby Lenarsic / Waukegan, IL / Performance
Alby was known as a great bowler in his time and held the high average in the county for several years. He was one of the best players in the North End Traveling league and was a three time winner of the “Sweet 16” tournament. Alby also holds several LCBA championship tournament titles in all three categories, Singles, Doubles and Team events.
John Picchietti Sr. / Italy / Meritorious Service
Recognized by Bowlers Journal as one of the 75 people who made a difference in the sport, John was the inventor of lane conditioner (oil). John was the proprietor of Deerfield Bowling Academy when he discovered that the lanes would wear better with a thin coat of oil. He started manufacturing and selling his lane conditioner over 60 years ago and is still an intricate part of the game today. John was a proficient bowler as well with thirteen 300 games in his career.
Joseph Sterbenz / North Chicago, IL / Performance
A career 200 average bowler, Joe did not hit his prime until his 64 th birthday. Since turning 64, John has had three 300 games, two 299’s, and a 298 game plus, he averaged 218 during his 64 th birthday season with a high series of 791, 791 & 796. The retired proprietor of Antioch Lanes, he was an aggressive marketer who always seemed to have a deal on the table.
