Ron Axberg / Performance

Ron has been a fierce competitor in Lake County for many years and has many achievements on the lanes. Ron was a Boot Hill Champion in 1991, Lake County Singles Sweet Sixteen Champion in 1992, two LCBA Championship Tournament Doubles Titles, in both scratch and handicap divisions and Ron was the All-Events Scratch Champion in 1993. Ron has bowled five 300 games, two 299 games, one 298 game, three 11-in-a-rows, and an 823 high series that he shot in the Moose State Tournament in 1997 at Lakehurst Bowl.

Pat Cornell / Beach Park, IL / Performance

Pat started bowling at the age of 17 and since has accomplished the following; 200+ average for 28 years with a career high average of 229. Pat was the first person to average 200 at Sunset Lanes and for a span in the mid 1970’s, was the only Lake County sanctioned 200 average! He also has two consecutive bowling seasons with 50+ 700 series in each season, and has 17 consecutive 700 series at Sunset Lanes in 1985. Pat has seventeen 300 games, and between October 4, 1999 and November 14, 1999, he shot three at three different bowling centers; seven 800 series with a high sanctioned of 837 and non-sanctioned of 858. Pat won the Lake County Industrial Tournament in 1972, the Husband & Wife Tournament in 1973 & 74, the Lake County Masters Tournament in 1975, the lake County Sweet Singles Sweet Sixteen Tournament in 1976 & 77, the Whitey Cox 20 Game Tournament in 1979. He also has the following LCBA Championship Tournament Titles; three Scratch Singles, two Handicap Singles, two Scratch All Events and one Handicap All Events Title.

Eugene Payne Sr. / Waukegan, IL / Meritorious Service

One day in the 50’s, Gene discovered bowling, liked it, and has been involved in the sport for over 45 years. He was instrumental in setting up the YMCA Mixed league at Sunset Bowl which lasted more than 20 years. Gene has also been involved in many mixed, state and national tournaments and in his many years of bowling, he never missed a night of bowling. Gene has a high game of 299 and many 700 series.

Robert C. Rosengren / Meritorious Service

Bob’s love affair with bowling started back in 1941 when he started setting pins at Grand Bowl. His first league average was 96 and rose to a high of 184 in 1973. Bob has bowled in the Woodchoppers league for over 50 years where he was league president and secretary. Bob’s highest series is 721 and in 1959, he won the Wisconsin State Moose Tournament Doubles Championship. Bob was a certified coach aqnd instructor for YABA for 20 years and was very conscientious and thorough in his instruction, guiding children in the basic fundamentals of the game.
