USBC Merger Information
Wednesday, October 12, 2011 at 6:13PM The United States Bowling Congress officially launched January 1, 2005 as the sport’s official organization that serves amateur adult and youth bowlers in the United States. The new organization was founded as a merger of the American Bowling Congress, Women’s International Bowling Congress, Young American Bowling Alliance and USA Bowling.
USBC has applied to the United States Olympic Committee to replace USA Bowling as the national governing body for bowling.
The USBC will stand for values that include; credibility, dedications, excellence, heritage, inclusiveness, integrity, philanthropy and sportsmanship.
The Lake County Bowling Association, Lake County Womens Association, Waukegan Women and Lake County YABA have had meetings and discussions regarding the new USBC. All associations, being ABC, WIBC and YABA will no longer be in existence. USBC will be the governing organization that will overlook all of these associations.
Among the topics of discussion for USBC, there was the option to merge or not. What that means is combining the four existing organizations (1BA, 2WBA & 1 YABA) into one association serving all the bowlers in Lake County.
It has been decided at this time, that the existing associations remain non-merged and each association submitted a letter of intent to join the USBC. This decision at that time was determined to be in the best interest of serving the bowlers in each of our respective associations.
All of the associations had to submit a letter of intent but do not have to merge. All of the Lake County associations will still have support from national headquarters (USBC) and the awards program to the bowlers will not change at both the local and national levels.
Sanctioning cards for the 2008-09 season will be with the USBC and your sanction card will designate which association you belong to.
